WHMIS Changed? (Group Course) Copy

  • WHMIS was changed to include the Global Harmonization System (GHS) of classifications and labelling of chemicals in December of 2018
  • GHS is a uniform worldwide system that classifies and communicates about chemicals.
  • GHS does not replace WHMIS but changed our WHMIS.
  • Changes included:
    • Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
    • Controlled products are now called “hazardous products”
    • New hazard classes and categories
    • Format has changed on items such as the supplier label
    • Standard language is used
  • In order to add GHS to WHMIS 2015, Canada amended the Hazardous Products Act and created Hazardous Products Regulations.
